Love Matters Cards

I’ve been working on a small project with some cards I designed and just wanted to share. The layout pictured above was done using the Project Life Big Shot 7 template.

Here are some samples of the cards I put together…

You can upload them onto your camera roll on your phone and then pull them into the Project Life App as a picture/jpeg. Lots of fun options. There are even a couple 4×6 cards in there too…

If you would like only a few of the cards then here they are individually.

If you are saving them from your computer just click the image you want and drag it to your desktop.

If you are pulling them up on your phone just tap the card you want. It will pull up into a media file. Then tap and hold on the image and select “Save Image.” The image can then be found in your camera roll. 🙂

My One Little Word

My one little word for 2017 is…

I thought a lot about it a few years ago. But now at this point in my life this little word takes on deeper meaning. I love the talk that President Uchtdorf gave a few years ago entitled, “Happiness, Your Heritage”. You can find it here.:

Happiness, Your Heritage

Some of my favorite parts include…”The desire to create is one of the deepest yearnings of the human soul. No matter our talents, education, backgrounds, or abilities, we each have an inherent wish to create something that did not exist before. Creation brings deep satisfaction and fulfillment. We develop ourselves and others when we take unorganized matter into our hands and mold it into something of beauty…We were created with the express purpose and potential of experiencing a fulness of joy. Our birthright-and the purpose of our great voyage on this earth-is to seek and experience eternal happiness. One of the ways we find this is by creating things…You may think you don’t have talents, but that is a false assumption, for we all have talents and gifts, every one of us. The bounds of creativity extend far beyond the limits of a canvas or a sheet of paper and do not require a brush, a pen, or the keys of a piano. Creation means bringing into existence something that did not exist before-colorful gardens, harmonious homes, family memories, flowing laughter.”

As I thought about the word, “Create” I realized that I must be very clear on what I want to be made manifest in my life. So I decided to write down my goals and affirmations for the year and place them in my planner where I can see it all the time.  I thought I would share my thoughts and a few pictures…

I also used some PL 3×4 filler cards to write down reminders and place them throughout my planner.

Happy New Year!! May it bring many moments and opportunities for you to “Create” joy in your life…

Wrapping It Up!

I had so much fun this year wrapping presents. I think I’ve used the sameish Christmas wrapping paper for the last 7 years. It was time to change it up. Of course I had to add it into my December Daily pages.

A wrapped present actually consists of two gifts. One is the present itself. The other is the anticipation of discovery.

“Repeat What Matters To Your Heart”

“Repeat What Matters”….

It’s a simple little phrase but its simplicity has been my motto this Christmas Season. (That and “Light the World.”) It was a quote that came to me as I was listening to one of my favorite singers share some of her thoughts about one of her songs.

What matters? What really matters this season?

I included my thoughts and a few graphics on my December Daily pages.

(This is a little close up of the left side of my page.)

(This is a little close up of the right side.)

This year I wanted Christmas to be special…different somehow…Cole has been gone for two years and we are finally together as a a family. Woot Woot!! I envisioned skipping Christmas all together…seriously…no presents, no tree, no decorations. I wanted so desperately to whisk my family away to some exotic land never to return…

I tried. Really I did.

But it didn’t work out.

For a few days I was kind of mad. I felt a little like the Grinch that stole Christmas. But little by little I was pulled back to the beauty of all that life has to offer and the blessings that abound…

I’ve thought a lot over the past few weeks about our family’s traditions and the many ways in which we celebrate the holidays…baking cookies, singing Christmas carols, decorating the tree, etc. Many of these things have changed over the years and many have remained the same. It’s the ones that have remained the same that I cherish the most. Cori Connors states, “We rarely realize, when we are in the middle of life, how sacred and rare the every-day is. We come to cherish the good and simple things because they repeat. Repetition is essential in this human existence. There is something very eternal about it. We repeat what matters to us; and by looking at what we have repeated in our lives we can tell, in retrospect, what mattered to us. Every writer knows the value of repetition. So does God. We repeat the sacrament, we pray always, we forgive 70 times 7…”To that I would like to add…We rarely realize how sacred and and rare our Christmas celebrations are when we are in the middle of it. We are often so consumed in accomplishing all the tasks set before us that we hardly take the time to remember why it is we do so much. I’ve asked myself the question over and over again…”Of all these traditions…which do I wish to keep and hold onto and which do I choose to let go?” For me the answer is easy…I choose to keep and hold onto those traditions that draw us closer to Christ.

I wanted this story, this message, to be a part of my Christmas cards this year in some way. So I included it on an extra card. I also attached the quote…

“Repeat What Matters to Your Heart” on the back of one side.

Our Christmas celebrations are repetitive. We repeat over and over again many of the same things. We decorate the tree, we give presents, we attend gatherings and social events. We repeat those things that matter. What matters to you? What matters to your heart? Repeat those things.

If you are interested in the quote here is a zip file…

repeat-what-matters-elements zip file

Included in the file is one jpg image of the “repeat” quote on a white background that you can use as a filler card on your PL layouts. There are also two overlays of the quote. One in black lettering. The other in white lettering.

You can save these elements to dropbox and then upload them into the Letterglow app or the Over app. They can be used on all kinds of different backgrounds. Think of them as digital stamps.:)

Hope you enjoy!!

Merry Christmas!

Much Love, Shilea

December Daily

My December Daily is not going so well. Christmas and life have just taken over. Im alright with it though. I did manage to whip up these 6×8 pages with the PL App and the Letterglow App while waiting in line at Sodalicious. On a side note…took our family pictures this year on Thanksgiving Day. It was the only time we could all be together during the daylight hours. I just set up the tripod and started snapping away.

The story behind the “repeat what matters” quote is coming tomorrow….

Shoot The Story

Happy November! Today is the first day of my “Shoot the Story” series. A few weeks ago I attended a photographers conference. While I was there I was asked the question…”What do you shoot?” At the time I wasn’t quite sure how to answer that. Mostly because I shoot just for fun. No pressure. No stress. But the more I thought about it the more I realized my answer is quite simple. I shoot those things that move and inspire me. “I shoot the story.” My goal this month is to think about those things that I am grateful for, shoot them and then write a short story. Hopefully this will happen every day up until Thanksgiving.
